Racers Begin Play at Silver Lakes Monday In Alabama

The Murray State women's golf team should have a good feeling as they play in the Chris Banister Classic at Silver Springs Golf Course in Glencoe, Alabama, because in the last three times they've

played in the event, they've won twice and finished second once.

The order of play calls for 36 holes on Monday (Oct. 7) with the final round Tuesday (Oct. 8). The play starts each day at 8 a.m., but after a shotgun start on Monday, tee times will be used in the final round Tuesday.

The Racers' history at Silver Springs GC has been impressive in the last three seasons. MSU won the 2016 title with an event record total score of 887. In 2017, MSU again with a score of 898. Last season in 2018, the Racers placed second at 907, three shots behind winner and host Jacksonville State.

The Racers are joined in the field of 11 teams by Alabama State, Austin Peay, Elon, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Troy, Little Rock and North Alabama.

Murray State will be paired with JSU and Little Rock in Monday's first day of play.

The Silver Springs Golf Course is part of Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and will play to a par-72 and 6,107 yards.
In the early part of the 2019-20 season, the Racers have five players ranked in the top-16 in the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring average. Ana Garcia Picchi is second in the league at 73.8, just a few tickets behind JSU's Javeria Vallarino at 73.3. Murray State's Reaysha Surendran is third at 74.2. Other MSU ranks include Sarah McDowell ninth at 75.5, Payton Carter 13th at 76.3 and Eliza Mae Kho in 16th at 76.7.Â
