The Murray State Racers (18-4, 9-2 OVC) go for their third-straight win Saturday when they welcome the SIUE Cougars (8-15, 4-7 OVC) to the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 28th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio. The game can also be seen online at Watch ESPN+.
The Racers ended the game Thursday on a 22-4 run to score an 86-75 victory over Eastern Illinois that allowed MSU to keep a share of first place in the Ohio Valley Conference at 9-2. The day started as a four-way tie until Jacksonville State was upset by UT Martin to fall to 8-3. MSU sits at 9-2 along with Austsin Peay and Belmont.
The Racers are 10-1 this season against NCAA D-I teams when they score 80 points. Their only loss was at Auburn (Dec. 22) by a score of 93-88.
In the EIU game, Darnell Cowart dealt with foul trouble but still scored a career-high 23 points to go with  12 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive glass. Ja Morant recorded his 14th double-double in 22 games this season with 23 points and 11 assists and his late-game dunk was his fourth play this season that has been featured on ESPN SportsCenter Top-10 Plays.
Morant was named to two important national award watch lists this week when the Wooden Award placed him on it's top-20 list and the Cousy Award put in its top-10 list. Morant goes into the weekend games ranked eighth in NCAA D-I (first in the OVC) with 24.1 points per game and first in the nation and OVC with 10.3 assists per game. If he keeps those averages, Morant will become the first player since the assist became an official stat to average 20 and 10 in a single season. Morant enters the game with 54 games played with MSU and he already has 935 points and 430 assists. Morant has 229 assists this season and has already set the MSU single-season record. He's chasing down the OVC record of 255 held by Duane Washington of Middle Tennessee from the 1986-87 season.
SIUE has played an amazing five overtime games this season and is 2-3 in those games including beating SE Missouri in triple OT 87-86 (Jan. 24) and Eastern Kentucky in double OT 88-82 (Feb. 2). The Racers haven't played extra time in 56 games since a double OT win (85-84) against Tennessee Tech at the OVC Tournament in Nashville in March of 2017. The Racers played four overtime games in that 2016-17 season that tied the school record that was set in the 2006-07 season.
