Turley Named Top Freshman, Adebayo First-Team All-OVC

After two stellar debut seasons with the Murray State women's basketball team, Macey Turley and Evelyn Adebayo have been named as the 2018-19 OVC Freshman of the Year and as a first-team All-OVC selection, respectively, the league office announced Tuesday. In addition, Turley was also named to the All-OVC second-team, while both were named to the All-Newcomer team.
Turley averaged 13.1 points and a team-best 4.4 assists per game in her freshman campaign. She also led the team in free throw shooting at 87.0-percent, while also shooting an impressive 35.9 percent from the floor.
In January at Southeast Missouri, the Murray native became just the fifth freshman in school history to score 30 or more points in a single-game when she dropped 32 on the Redhawks in Cape Girardeau. A little over a month later, Turley found her way into the record books again when she knocked down 29-straight free throws, marking the program's third longest streak.
Adebayo led the OVC with 18.4 points and 11.6 rebounds per game on the year, while finishing second in points and first in rebounds in OVC play at 18.2 and 12.9, respectively. The junior transfer scored a career-high 28 points in December at 10th-ranked Tennessee, followed by setting a new career mark for rebounds with 20 in February against Eastern Illinois.
While Adebayo's scoring and rebounding were equally impressive, it was her ability to do them together that helped push her team to the OVC tournament. The England-native broke a 35-year old school record this season by pulling down 19 total double-doubles, including a school record-tying seven in a row. She was also OVC Player of the Week three times, OVC Newcomer of the Week 12 times and was also named as the National Mid-Major Player of the Week by College Sports Madness once.
Turley is now the fourth OVC Freshman of the Year in MSU history joining Rebecca Remington, Erika Sisk and Ke'Shunan James. For All-OVC selections, Adebayo and Turley represent the 33rd and 34th Racers to earn the distinguished honor.
