Racers Finish Third At Jan Weaver Invitational

Murray State women's golf posted a third place showing in their home spring event Saturday at the Jan Weaver Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Kentucky.

The Racers started the final round with a two shot lead on Eastern Kentucky and were five shots ahead of Rutgers. However, when the day of was over, The Racers dropped to third place after a team score of 307 and were passed by Eastern Kentucky who took home the title with a 297, while Rutgers moved past MSU into second place also with a 297. After the Racers in third place with scores of 285-300-307=892, Louisiana-Monroe (903) was in fourth place and Illinois State and Bradley shared fifth place at 914.

Murray State's Anna Moore placed second on scores of 70-71-75=216, while Linette Holmslykke was third on rounds of 69-73-75=217. Jane Watts was 16th on rounds of 70-75-82=227, with Raeshya Surendran in 35th place on scores of 76-81-75=232. Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria finished in 82nd place on scores of 84-81-86=251.

MSU had four players in the field of 99 as individuals. Taylor Church and Sarah McDowell shared 21st place. Church had scores of 75-78-76=229, while McDowell had scores of 74-78-77=229. Nadine was 62nd on scores of 82-73-85=240 and Charli Jo Doss was 74th on rounds of 82-80-84=246.

EKU's Elsa Moberly won the medalist title on scores of 70-68-73=211 which was good for a five shot win over MSU's Anna Moore.

Miller Memorial played to a par of 72 and 6,010 yards.

Event Notes
In round one, the Racers set a 17-year record for the tournament with a 3-under-par 285 as they topped the 291 that Central Arkansas posted in 2018.

The previous single low round for the event was also topped twice when Eastern Kentucky's Elsa Moberly carded a 4-under-par 68 and MSU's Linette Holmslykke had a 3-under 69. Central Arkansas' Emma Svensson had the previous mark with a 2-under-par 70 from 2018.

There was a hole-in-one in the event and that came in the first round from Tennessee Tech's Kate Mashburn. The TTU sophomore aced the par-3 18th hole at Miller Memorial from 150 yards.

EKU's 54-hole total of 884 set the event record as they topped the 893 the Racers posted in 2017.

Moberly's 211 is a new event record as she topped the 222 that MSU's Moa Folke and Linette Holmslykke posted in 2017.

Next up for the Racers is the Ohio Valley Conference Championship (April 15-17) at The Shoals Golf Club (Schoolmaster Course) in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The Racers have won the last two OVC titles. In 2018, they won at The Shoals and in 2017, the won the title at Hampton Cove, in Huntsville. The Racers lead the OVC with 11 all-time OVC titles and five appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
