Murray State's Linette Holmslykke played her final collegiate round Monday at a place no other player in the Ohio Valley Conference has ever ended their career before, at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship. The event was played out at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Â
The senior from Vejle, Denmark certainly represented her team and conference well this week on a tough golf course among the best that NCAA D-I women's golf has to offer.
Â
In Monday's final round, Holmslykke struggled with a 6-over-par first nine holes as she started from the 10th hole, but managed to regroup in her final nine holes to card an even par 37 for a final round total of 79. Her scoring line of 77-76-79=232 was good for a spot in 54th place in the field of 132 players and it made Holmslykke one of 38 players to have three straight days of scores in the 70s.
Â
Holmslykke's final stroke as a student-athlete at Murray State was a 25-foot par putt that dropped to the bottom of the cup on the par-4 ninth hole, her final of
the final round.
Â
"It was a struggle today, especially the first nine holes," Holmslykke said. "To make that putt on my final hole, it's something that I'll never forget. My last three years at Murray State have been amazing and I'm never going to forget it."
Â
Tournament Notes
Holmslykke finished her senior campaign of 2018-19 with scoring average of 73.0, tops in the OVC. Her scoring average in postseason play (OVC Tournament, NCAA Auburn Regional and NCAA Championship) was 72.7 in nine rounds of play, which included five rounds of par or better and a scintillating 7-under-par 65 in the Auburn Regional second round.
Â
Holmslykke placed sixth among the 12 individual NCAA qualifiers in the event. The leader of that group was Virginia Tech's Amanda Hollandsworth who placed fifth overall with a 219 toatal.
Â
The medalist was Arkansas' Maria Fassi who won the title on the home course of the Razorbacks program with scores of 72-71-68=211.
Â
Prior to the first round of play, Holmslykke was honored Wednesday with the Elite 90 award. The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the top student-athlete at each of their annual 90 championships. This honor marked the second in the 2018-19 school year for Murray State Athletics after Racer senior Meike Drewell was honored at the NCAA Rifle Championship. Holmslykke graduated from Murray State this month and was named the top graduate in finance. She has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in all three of her years at MSU and in 2017 she won the OVC's academic Medal of Honor award.

Holmslykke's final round as a Murray State Racer begins Monday at 12:50 p.m., where she will have Angelica Maresco of Alabama and Allyson Geer-Park of Michigan State as playing partners.
