Murray State women's soccer will travel to their first road match of the season on Sunday afternoon as they take on the Bulldogs of Samford University. The non-conference contest will begin at 2:00 p.m. from the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama.
Last Time Out:
The Racers opened the season at home on Thursday evening when they hosted Big East opponent Xavier at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky. Goals from Abby Jones, Miyah Watford, and Rebecca Kubin fueled a potent Murray State offense, but the season opener was spoiled in the final minute of double overtime as the Racers fell to the Musketeers 4-3 in nearly 110 minutes of action. In addition to the three goals, Rebecca Kubin and Elizabeth Tilton tallied assists on the afternoon. As a team, the Racers split the possession battle 50/50 while recording 17 shots (nine on target) in the season debut.

Samford enters Sunday's match at 0-0-1 after playing to a 0-0 draw in their season opener against UAB. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2018 season that saw them turn in a 12-6-1 record and garner the Southern Conference regular season title. Samford is led by senior forward Erin Bonner who led her side with six goals in 2018. They also return Caroline Orman, who collected nine points on four goals and an assist a year ago. Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan McAslan logged all 110 minutes between the posts in the season opener against UAB earlier this week.

Sunday will mark the ninth all-time meeting between the two sides, with the Bulldogs holding the overall series with a record of 6-1-1. Of the eight previous encounters, seven have been decided by one goal or less. The last time the programs saw each other was during the 2007 season, when the Racers were defeated with a score of 2-1 on the road in Birmingham when Samford was still a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
