True freshman nets double-double at #11 Kentucky
Freshman Katelyn Young of the Murray State women's basketball team has been named as the OVC Freshman of the Week as the league announced their first batch of weekly awards for the 2020-21 season Tuesday.
Against a very tough opponent in 11th-ranked Kentucky, Young had a big day for Murray State scoring 14 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Through the first three quarters of Wednesday's game, Young had just seven rebounds, but poured it on the fourth to finish with 14. Young's 14 boards were a key factor in the Racers' out-rebounding of the Wildcats by a 48-43 margin. According to all available statistical data, dating back to the 1997-98 season, Young is the first Racers true freshman to notch a double-double in their collegiate debut.
On Tuesday, Young and teammates will kick off their 2020-21 home slate when they host Evansville at the CFSB Center at 6 p.m.
