Coombs Leads MSU In First Spring Round In Arizona

The Murray State men's golf team played the first round of their 2020 spring season at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Desert Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona.

MSU's Connor Coombs led the way with a 2-over-par 74, which was good for a spot in 34^th place in the field of 112 competitors, while Dalton Bagwell and James Boone shared 66^th place with scores of 76. Austin Knight was in 77^th place after a round of 77 and Avery Edwards carded a 78 and was in 90^th place.

The Racers posted a 303 in round one and were in 16^th place, tied with SIUE and two shots from 15^th place Xavier and four shots from Missouri State, UConn and Northern Illinois at 299 in 12^th place. The Racers were two shots ahead of DePaul. Loyola Marymount was the first round leader at 284, with Drake (286), Marshall (289), Seton Hall and Loyola (MD) (290) making up the top-5

The first round individual leader was Delaware's Roberto Nieves with a 5-under-par 67.

MSU's first tee time Sunday is at 8:39 a.m. local time with Bucknell, Drake and Missouri State as playing partners.

The Palm Desert is a par-72 and is playing to a length of 7,015 yards.
