2/22/2020 7:20:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The Murray State women's basketball team got a much needed win in its final regular-season road game of the year, topping SIUE, 70-61, Saturday afternoon at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville. With Morehead State also winning Saturday, the Racers and Eagles remained tied for the eighth place in the OVC standings. Despite the tie Murray State would currently get the final OVC championship berth by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Murray State led for over 35 minutes, but never held more than an 11 point lead, which did not come until the fourth quarter. The Racers shot an impressive 41.1-percent from the floor in the contest, including 47.6 percent in the second half. MSU also made six 3-pointers on the night and were a solid 75-percent from the free throw line.
Laci Hawthorne notched her seventh double-double of the season by scoring 20 point and pulling down a career-high 17 rebounds. Macie Gibson had 13 point and nine boards in the game, while Alexis Burpo had eight and nine, respectively. Meanwhile, Raegan Blackburn and Lex Mayes rounded out the four Racers in double-digits with 12 each.
The Racers return home Thursday for their final two games of the regular season. Murray State will open the final week with Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. Thursday, followed by a 5 p.m. First Financial Bank Battle of the Border matchup with Austin Peay Saturday.
