Racers Shave Four Shots In The Desert

The Murray State men's golf team shaved four shots off their score from round one to round two on Sunday at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Desert Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona.

The Racers had a 303 in the opening round, and managed a 299 in round two. MSU's 602 has them in 17^th place with the final round coming Monday.

Drake (568) jumped Loyola Marymount (569) for first place, while Seton Hall (571), Eastern Michigan (573) and Loyola (MD) (574) made up the top-5.

Connor Coombs led the way for the Racers with scores of 74-73=137 for a spot in 45^th place, while Austin Knight (77-75=152) and Dalton Bagwell (76-76=152) shared 85^th place. Avery Edwards was in 92^nd pace on rounds of 78-75=153. James Boone was in 96^th place after scores of 76-78=154.

Delaware's Roberto Nieves and Joseph Crisostomo of Air Force are tied for the medalist honor at 6-under-par 138.

MSU's first tee time Monday in the final round is 7:45 a.m. local time with playing partners SIUE and Hartford.

The Palm Desert is a par-72 and is playing to a length of 7,015 yards.
