Burpo, Hawthorne Net OVC Awards

After a 2-0 week, sophomore Alexis Burpo and junior Laci Hawthorne of the Murray State women's basketball team were honored by the OVC Tuesday by being named Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively.
Burpo helped lead Murray State to a 2-0 week with a monster stat line of 16.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. The sophomore recorded a double-double in each game and also notched new career-highs on the week with 21 points Thursday against EIU and 15 rebounds Saturday against SIUE. In addition, she was a solid 12-for-28 from the floor over the two wins for a 42.9 field goal percentage.
Laci Hawthorne averaged a double-double on the week with 13.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, to along with 2.5 assists and 47.8 shooting percentage. She played a key role in the Racers' OT win over EIU with 20 points and 13 rebounds, which she followed up Saturday with six points and eight boards against SIUE.
