4/10/2020 2:46:00 PM | General
The popular Murray State athletics web series "2-Minute Drill" begins an exciting new chapter as it not only continues to bring fans insight on the new Racer football staff, but now gives you a peak behind the scenes at the staff that make Racers athletics in "2-Minute Drill: Behind The Scenes Edition". To kick off the new edition, assistant athletic director for academics Meagan Short joins Parker Griffith for an inside look at her job and experiences. In addition, check out below as we take off the timer and give Meagan three more questions in a GoRacers.com exclusive, "Overtime with Meagan Short."
Overtime With Meagan Short
1. If you had to swap jobs with someone in the department, who would it be?
Probably, our budget office. I enjoy working with numbers and spreadsheets and a lot of people might that that would be boring and though it would be completely different from what I do now, I think I would really enjoy it.
2. How did you find out that your field exists, as a lot of jobs in athletics are unknown to people who are not in athletics?
I started out working in the registrar's office and there was a position created in athletics called "NCAA Eligibility Specialist". I knew nothing about NCAA eligibility or rules, but I had worked in the registrar's office so I knew the degree rules for Murray State, so I was hired for that job. I ended up learning a lot about eligibility, then also learned a lot about the other side of the office which is academic advising. So when my current position opened up, I discussed it with [Senior Associate Athletic Director] Matt Kelly and I was hired for this job.
3. What do you hope the student-athletes that you work with say about you in 10 years?
That I was kind and always helpful.
