Â
This chapter in the program's history celebrates MSU's 2010 OVC championship victory at GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee.
Â
The Racers posted a score of 747 and made it into a five-shot win as they once again dueled Jacksonville State who finished with a score of 752. The 2010 tournament was unique in that a winner was determined in 45 holes, nine less than the scheduled 54, but nine more than if weather had canceled it after 36 holes. The tournament committee decided to play an extra nine holes on day two and then rained washed out any chance of playing the final nine holes on day three.
Â
The Racers played the final nine holes 1-under-par for an 18-shot swing and it turned out to be a five shot win.
Â
"Playing the extra nine holes on the second round proved to be a decision that helped us win the championship," said Milkman whose team won their eighth title in 17 seasons of the program. "The thing I remember most is how well we played those last nine holes. We were upbeat and positive and I believe our hard work hard in the weight room that year made the difference. It was very rewarding to see our three great seniors; Meagan, Joyce, and Andrea go out as back-to-back champions. They were such great leaders."
Â
The Racers had four players in the top-7 including Megan McKinney in second place with scores of 76-72-37=185, while Joy Trus placed fifth on rounds of 78-75-34=187. Morgan Cross and Andrea Downer shared seventh place on scores of 77-75-36=188 and 76-76-36=188. Caroline Lagerborg was 18th on scores of 77-78-41=196.
Â
Joyce Trus was honored as All-OVC First Team and Andrea Downer was on the All-OVC Second Team. Milkman was named OVC Coach of the Year.
Â
The Racers have won 12 OVC championships and finished runner-up five times in 26 tries. MSU's OVC championships have come in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The Racers have only finished out of the top three only three times.
