A Good Start Puts Racers In Second at JSU Banister Classic

The Racers have two players in the top-10 after the first 18 holes on Sunday
The Murray State women's golf team had a spot in second place after the first day of competition at the Chris Banister Classic hosted by Jacksonville State at the RTJ Silver Lakes Golf Club in Gadsden, Alabama.

The Racers posted a first round team score of 295 and were three shots from leader Charleston Southern at 292. The rest of the top-5 teams included JSU (299), Elon (303) and North Alabama (305).

MSU's Payton Carter carded a 1-under par 71 and was in second place, just two shots from leader Valentina Curet of JSU at 3-under-par 69. Murray State's Emmie Eriksson gave the Racers a pair of players in the top-10 with a spot in seventh place on a score of 74. Ana Picchi and Eliza Mae Kho shared 12th place with scores of 75. Alma Garcia was in 24th place after a 79. Freshman McKenna Stahl is seeing her first action as a Racer and was fifth among eight solo players with an 82.

Round two at Silver Lakes is set for Monday morning with the final round on Tuesday.
