Racers Fall to First Place Skyhawks

In a Battle of OVC Rivals UT-Martin wins 2-1 Over Murray St.
The Murray State Women's Soccer team fell to UT-Martin 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Field in Martin, Tennessee. The first 45 minutes of the match proved to be a great back-and-forth between the two sides with UT Martin scoring in the 30th minute of the match to take an early lead. Murray State would quickly draw even on a goal by Riley Johnson coming off a Skyhawk deflection in the 35th minute.

The Skyhawks scored once more in the 41st minute to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of UT Martin. Neither side would concede a goal in the second half of the contest.

Audrey Henry fired two shots on goal in the match, but the Skyhawks prevented both shots from finding the back of the net on two team saves.

The Racers outpaced the Skyhawks in corner kicks by a total of 7-1 but were unable to convert on the chances. Murray State put up nine shots on the day with four being on goal.

The defeat snaps the Racers two-game winning streak in which they defeated Morehead State and SIUE. Murray State moves to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in OVC play.

Tennessee Tech is next on the schedule for the Racers with the contest coming on Thursday (Oct. 21) in Cookeville, Tennessee.
