Racers Come Up Short in OVC Tournament vs Tennessee Tech

Golden Eagles Notch Game Winner in 89th minute to End Racers Campaign
Murray State Women's Soccer came up short to Tennessee Tech 2-1 in the OVC Tournament on Sunday (Oct. 31) at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky. The defeat ends the 2021 Season for the Racers and brings their record on the season to 9-8-1.

Tennessee Tech took the early lead on a 24th minute goal from Chloe Smith leaving the Racers fighting for a comeback. In the 86th minute of the match, Murray State would score the game tying goal on a perfectly placed ball from Hailey Cole that was headed into the top right corner of the goal by defender Audrey Henry.

In a very physical match, the Golden Eagles would receive a penalty kick for a foul in the box by Murray State in the 89th minute. Merideth Nye would take the attempt from the spot for Tennessee Tech that would be deflected by goalkeeper Jenna Villacres but would have enough spin to find its way into the net.

On the year, the Racers scored 31 goals from 13 different players. Chloe Barnthouse paced goal scorers for the Racers in her second consecutive year with five goals. Hailey Cole led the Racers with six assists on the year to go along with two goals.
