Murray State Women’s Tennis Continues to Impress Throughout Fall Season
This past weekend, Murray State Women's Tennis competed in the Belmont Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee, going 26-6 overall at the event. The Racers are a combined 68-21 on the fall, good for a .764 winning percentage.
Â
"It was a very good tournament to play in and I feel like we keep getting better every week. Our decision making keeps getting better and props to the team for competing the right way, they are not focusing on the outcome and instead focusing on what is going to make them better and give them more chances to win which is what our program is all about." Coach Jorge Caetano said.
Â
Marit Kruegel and Sarah Bureau each went a perfect 6-0 on the weekend with Gabrielle Geolier and Natalie Slezakova going undefeated in their singles matches.
Â
"Sarah and Gabby played very smart tennis the entire weekend in singles, dominating all their opponents so it is great to see their games maturing." Caetano said, "Marit also had a very dominant weekend, and I am proud of the way she was able to fight back in her last match after being down 3-1 in the third set. Those are defining moments and I am glad she used the opportunity to get better and as a result she got the win."
Â
Slezakova remains unbeaten in singles play to start her Murray State career, going 6-0 to this point. After dropping her first match of the season, Geolier has won seven consecutive matches.
Â
"It was great to see Natalie competing well and having some very quality wins this weekend. We are on the right track to get where she was before her injuries, and I am happy for her." The eighth year Head Coach Caetano said.
Â
Murray State will be back in action for their final fall event on November 5-6 when they host the MSU Invitational at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Kentucky.
