Vogel will add depth to an already-talented Racer hitting core
Murray State volleyball is excited to present its 2021-22 signing class, as announced by head coach Dave Schwepker on Wednesday. The class features Ella Vogel, who looks to continue both her athletic and academic career as a member of the Racer family.
Â
"Ella will be a strong offensive addition to the Murray State Volleyball program. She has the ability to be a middle or outside hitter. She was heavily recruited so we are honored that she made her decision to attend Murray State" said Schwepker.
Â
Vogel comes to Murray State after a standout career at Cape Central High School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The 6'1" hitter is twice-named SEMO Conference Hitter of the Year and SEMO Conference Player of the Year for her junior and senior seasons. The four-time first team All-Conference selection also made a trio of appearance on the All-District first team and has been nominated for the Semoball Volleyball Player of the Year three times to highlight her high school accolades.
Â
Vogel also spent three years as a starter on the girls' varsity basketball team. She was named All-Conference First Team three times, All-District First Team twice and nominated for Semoball Basketball Player of the Year her freshman and sophomore years. Vogel is the 11th leading scorer in school history, making the 1000 point plaque in just three seasons.
Â
Academically, Vogel made the A-Honor Roll all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Senate and BETA Club.
Â
"Ella is a well-rounded individual and is highly motivated in the classroom. She was a multi-sport athlete growing up and even considered some Division 1 basketball offers before she decided to take the volleyball route. She is a very highly decorated hitter in her region and is a standout player for Cape Central High School and her club team. Ella will definitely fit into our program and we are extremely excited to have Ella become a member of the Murray State Volleyball family" said Schwepker.
