Williams Named OVC Player of The Week For A Second Time

Murray State’s KJ Williams had a tremendous three games for the Races at the Naples Invitational
Murray State's KJ Williams was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week after a vote of the league's sports information directors.

The junior from Cleveland, Mississippi, helped the Racers win two of three games Thanksgiving week at the Naples Invitational.

Williams averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists/game and hitting 61.9 percent (26-of-42) from the field and 40 percent (4-of-10) from 3-point range. He opened the event with 18 points and 10 rebounds against ETSU, which marked his first double-double of the season and 18th of his career. A day later he had a season-best 29 points on 12-of-17 shooting (4-of-6 3-pointers) in an 80-43 victory over Long Beach State. He closed the week in leading the Racers to a 12-point win over James Madison by tallying 13 points, eight rebounds and an assist.

Six games into the 2021-22 season, Williams ranks first in the OVC in scoring (19.2 points/game), fourth in field goal percentage (58.5%), sixth in 3-point percentage (45.5%) and seventh in rebounding (6.5/game).
Along with Young, the Racers also had the OVC Men's Player of the Week with KJ Williams. This week marks the first time the Racers have won the OVC weekly award in both the women's and the men's game since 2013. In that instance, the Murray State winners were Isaiah Canaan and Erika Sisk.Â

Racers Selected For Two Home Games On ESPNU
The Murray State men's basketball is hosting a pair of televised home games on ESPNU as announced by the Ohio Valley Conference for the 2021-22 season. The Racers will appear on ESPNU (Feb. 17) when they host the Austin Peay Governors at the CFSB Center in a 6 p.m. tip. The second game happens at home (Feb. 24) against the Belmont Bruins in a tip off of 8 p.m. Both of the TV games for the Racers come on Thursday nights. The OVC schedule has a total of nine total men's basketball televised games (six regular season contests and three OVC Tournament games) to be aired by one of the ESPN networks during the 2021-22 season. This includes three nights of coverage at the OVC Tournament (March 4-5) at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

Mini-Ticket Plans Available
Fans can purchase season tickets and the Navy & Gold Mini ticket plans at Racer Mania. The mini plans are a great way for Racer Nation to enjoy Murray State games with general admission tickets. Each mini plan is $50 for one general admission ticket to five games. All of the games offered in the ticket plans are doubleheaders except for the stand-alone men's game vs Middle Tennessee (Dec. 4). Call the ticket office at (270) 809-3000 to purchase a ticket plan.
