Young Nets Racers’ Second-Straight POW Honor

Sophomore average double-double; shot 80-plus percent from field
Sophomore forward Katelyn Young of the Murray State women's basketball team has been named as the OVC Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It marks the second consecutive week that a Racer has been tabbed for the honor, after Macey Turley earned the award last week.
Katelyn Young averaged a double-double of 24.0 points and 11.5 rebounds on a week which she shot 80.8-percent from the floor over two Racer wins. The sophomore finished Tuesday's game at Mississippi Valley with 23 points and 11 rebounds, followed by 25 points and 12 rebounds against Alabama A&M.
Young went 11-for-15 from the floor in the Mississippi Valley game, while almost going perfect in the Alabama A&M contest at 10-for-11. She was also 1-for-1 from 3-point range on the week and 5-for-8 from the free throw line with three assists, one steal, one block and three turnovers.
Along with Young, the Racers also had the OVC Men's Player of the Week with KJ Williams. This week marks the first time the Racers have won the OVC weekly award in both the women's and the men's game since 2013. In that instance, the Murray State winners were Isaiah Canaan and Erika Sisk.
Young and the Racers return to action Tuesday in Evansville, Indiana against the Purple Aces of Evansville at the Meeks Family Fieldhouse at 6 p.m.
