Consistent scores pave path to victory over Zips
The sixth-ranked Murray State rifle team continued to get better Saturday as it lodged its second consecutive 4700-plus performance by taking down Akron, 4705-4692, at the Lt. Hugh W Wylie Range on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Murray State used a nine-point, 2335-2326 smallbore win to help propel it to victory Saturday, in addition to winning air rifle as well, 2370-2366. As a team, it was MSU's second-best aggregate and air rifle scores of the season and the third best score in smallbore.
Kiuru continued to show why he is one of the best shooters in the nation in the match Saturday by firing a 589 in smallbore and a season-high 596 in air rifle to tie his career-high aggregate of 1185. The Finnish native posted five perfect 100s on the day including three in air rifle and both prone position segments.
Patterson shot a 584 in small bore and a career-high 593 in air rifle to end the day with an 1177. Allison Henry also had a big day on both guns with a 584 smallbore and a 590 air rifle, while freshmen John Blanton and Andrew Duryea each shot a 591 in air rifle.
The Racers return to work Sunday at Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Columbus, when they take on the host Buckeyes and NC State in a tri-match that will begin at 8 a.m. CT.
