Surendran Takes Lead Into Kiawah Classic Final Round

With great play by not only Raeysha Surendran, the Racers are in fourth place at Kiawah.
Murray State's Raeshya Surendran carded a second round 68, a day after a 69 at the Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C. Her 36-hole total 137 means she has a three-shot lead on Dallas Baptist's Faith DeLaGarza (140) when the final 18 gets started Tuesday morning. Surendran, a senior from Selangor, Malaysia is seeking her second career win as a collegiate player with the Racers.

The Racers sit in fourth place in the field of 41 teams on scores of 293-298=591, one shot behind fourth place East Tennessee (590) and four shots from second place Northern Illinois (587). DBU is the runaway leader at 569 and an 18-shot lead.

Other Murray State scores and places include a sixth place spot for Payton Carter who has carded rounds of 72-72=144. Briana McMinn was in 56th place on scores of 74-78=152 and Sarah Forsythe in 118th place after rounds of 78-80=158. Â Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria was in 134th place after scores of 79-80=159.

The Racers are in the event for the fifth-straight year and are looking for their third top-10 finish at Kiawah after successful finishes in 2017 and 2018.

About Murray State Women's Golf
The Racers' program is in its 28th season overall, with the founder of the program, Coach Velvet Milkman guiding the way as the only coach the Racers have ever had. She started the Murray State program in the 1993-94 school year and has coached championship-level student-athletes that have produced 12 OVC championships, the most of any coach at Murray State. Also serving for many years as the Murray State Senior Woman Administrator, Milkman did MSU Athletics a great service by serving as Interim Athletics Director from July 2018 through February 2019. Milkman is involved at the NCAA level shaping women's golf on a national scale. She served a four-year term (2009-12) on the NCAA Women's Golf Committee including two years as chair.
