Racers’ best start in over 20 years rewarded by STATS PERFORM poll voters
For the first time in 10 years, the Murray State football team is part of the STATS PERFORM FCS Top 25 poll, the organization announced Monday. The Racers came in at 25th in this week's edition of the poll with 90 votes, beating out Monmouth for the final spot in the rankings, who had 71.
With a win over Tennessee Tech Sunday, Murray State is now 3-0 on the season for the first time since 1998. The Racers also topped UT Martin at home in their season opener, as well as then 16th-ranked Southeast Missouri on the road last week.
The ranking marks the first time Murray State has appeared in the poll since September of 2011 when it was 24th and just the second time since the final poll of the 2002 season.
On Sunday, the newly minted 25th-ranked Racers return to Roy Stewart Stadium to honor another 25, Murray State Hall of Famer Dennis Jackson. Sunday's game has been dubbed Dennis Jackson Day and will be highlighted by the dedication of the new Dennis Jackson Racer Room on the bottom floor of Stewart Stadium. Jackson broke the color barrier for Murray State when he became the Racers' first Black student-athlete in 1960, competing in both football and track and field. Sunday's game will feature multiple events and special content throughout the day, all honoring Murray State's own No. 25, Mr. Dennis Jackson.
