MSU earns the doubles point and all six singles matches to improve to 3-0 against OVC foes
Murray State women's tennis opened a two-match road trip with a Friday clash against UT Martin in its third OVC contest of 2021. The Racers improved to 3-0 after cruising to a 7-0 sweep over the Skyhawks in Martin, Tennessee.
"We knew it was going to be a competitive match against a big rival, and I am proud of the girls for the way they competed on every court in singles and doubles. It was a great team win, and we are looking forward to another tough one on Wednesday against SEMO," said MSU head coach Jorge Caetano.
The Racers secured the doubles point after Marit Kreugel and Stasya Sharapova teamed up for a 6-0 win at the #2, followed by an Anja Loncarevic/Gabrielle Geolier 7-5 triumph at the #3 position.
In singles, the Racers got victories on all six courts as Sara Loncarevic (6-4, 4-6, 2-0, ret.), Stasya Sharapova (6-2, 3-6, 6-2), Sarah Bureau (6-3, 6-0), Marit Kreugel (6-4, 6-4), Anja Loncarevic (6-0, 6-2), and Gabrielle Geolier (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) all claimed wins at the #1-#6 spots respectively.
For Geolier and Anja Loncarevic, their singles victories marked their fifth-straight singles wins of the season. For Bureau, the singles triumph is her team-leading ninth of the year as the freshman continues to enjoy an impressive first season in a Racer uniform.
The Racers return to action on Wednesday against SEMO on the road.
