On the cusp of earning a spot on the PGA Tour, Jared Wolfe shot a 61 in Springfield, Ill., on the Korn Ferry Tour
Former Murray State men's golfer and 2010 All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, Jared Wolfe carded a 10-under-par 61 Friday at the Korn Ferry Tour stop in Springfield, Illinois.
Â
In the second round of the Memorial Health Championship at Panther Creek Country Club, Wolfe started his round at the 10th hole where he birdied three of his first five holes and then made eagle at the par-5 16th hole to push to a 5-under 31 for his first nine. On the front nine, Wolfe carded three more birdies and another eagle for a score line of 31-30=61.
Â
With rain hampering play, some players have to come back Saturday morning to finish up the second round.
Â
"I set the alarm just in case we were going to play today but I didn't think we would with the forecast calling for two inches of rain," Wolfe told PGATour.com. "Obviously having two eagles, which, I hadn't had many in 2021 after I think I may have led the Tour in 2020 with it."
Â
Wolfe's 36 hole of 129 (68-61) has him in a second-place position after he moved up 50 places with the 61. He is two shots behind leader Erik Barnes who carded scores of 63-64.
Â
The second round resumes at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday with the third round to immediately follow later that morning.
Â
Wolfe is close to earning a spot on the PGA Tour as he began the event in Springfield ranked 16th on the Korn Ferry Tour money list. He has two career victories on the tour and a third win this year gets Wolfe the Three-Victory Promotion to the big show.
