The Racers defeated Lakeland CC, 12-2, before falling to 3-2 to SIU

The Murray State Softball team traveled to Carbondale, Illinois for two games, splitting their second weekend of fall ball play, earning a 12-2 victory against Lakeland Community College before falling 3-2 to SIU on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Game One – Murray State 12, Lakeland CC 2 (10 inn.)
The Racers started the scoring early and often as they fell behind 1-0 in the second inning but put up runs over the next four to take a 7-1 lead after the fifth inning.

After the Lakers scored one in the eighth, Murray State added five more in the bottom half of the eighth and ninth to close out the win, 12-2.

At the plate, Lily Fischer (3-5, 2 RBI 2 Runs), Jensen Striegel (3-5, RBI, Run), Lindsey Carroll (2-4, RBI, 2 Runs), Sierra Gilmore (2-6, 2 RBI, 2 Runs), Logan Braundmeier (2-5, 3 RBI) and Jordan Childress (2-4, RBI) each posted multi-hit performances as the Racers put up 17 hits in the contest.

In the circle, Murray State used four arms, Emma Olejniczak, Carroll, Jenna Veber and Jade King. Olejniczak struck out a team-high three over three innings of work.

Game Two – SIU 3, Murray State 2 (8 inn.)
Murray State would be the first team on the scoreboard in game two of the day, doing so when Logan Braundmeier launched a two-run home run in the visiting half of the third inning.

The Salukis would tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth inning and eventually take the win with an unearned run in the eighth.

Hannah James struck out five batters through five and one-third innings in the circle for the Racers in the defeat. Veber also collected one strikeout and did not allow an earned run in relief.
