The Henson Award is given annually to the National Player of the Year in mid-major collegiate basketball
Murray State's Tevin Brown was named to the mid-season watch list for the Lou Henson National Player of the Year presented by CollegeInsider.com.
Â
Brown, a junior from Fairhope, Alabama, is having a tremendous 2021-22 season for the Racers as he leads the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring at 18.9 points per game which puts him 43rd in NCAA D-I. Brown also ranks 10th in the nation with 49 made 3-point baskets in 14 games and he is 25th in the nation with a 3-point percentage of .438.
Â
He has already earned three OVC Player of the Week honors this season and is looking to be a three-time All-OVC selection at the end of the season and perhaps the OVC Player of the Year. Brown was a Lou Henson All-America after the 2019-20 season.
Â
Brown is just the third MSU player to score 1,000 points, get 500 rebounds and have 350 assists, an honor he reached just last week as the Racers have
posted a 12-2 mark and 2-0 record in early going of the OVC season. Brown enters the week with 1,608 career points at MSU for 11th on the all-time list. He is eight 3-point baskets from breaking the MSU all-time 3-point record held by Isaiah Canaan (2009-13) with 304 and Brown is also taking aim at the OVC record of 319 set by Austin Peay's Joe Sibbitt (1994-98).
Â
Brown is one of four players from the OVC on the watch list that includes Belmont's Grayson Murphy and Nick Muszynski and Morehead State's Johni Broome
Â
The Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award will be given April 1 in New Orleans, site of the NCAA men's basketball championship.
