Murray State Volleyball closes the weekend at home with a 3-0 win over Evansville
Murray State volleyball grabs their second Missouri Valley Conference win with a 3-0 win over Evansville at Racer Arena, Saturday. This is the Racers first sweep of the season.
Racers was able to hold on to an early lead while Evansville refuses to let the Racers go in the first set. The Aces seemed to have got brief tailwind when they evened the score in the 21st point but the Racers were able to break that by making a 4-1 scoring run to end the set.
The Racers took an early lead in the second set and never let go to win it 25 to 20. The third set was a show of dominance by the Racers as they take a 10-1 scoring run right off the bat, the lead stayed all the way until the end when Federica Nuccio scored the game-winning point.
"I think yesterday's win gave us the confidence for our team to come out and just play our game," said assistant coach, Colton Reinholtz. "The women were able to focus on their own 30 by 30 side of the net and I am really proud of them."
Bailey DeMier set a season high in assists per set with 13.33 to make a total of 40 in the match. She also made her 10th double-double of the season with 10 digs to come with the assists.
DeMier distributed most of her assists to Jayla Holcombe, Elisa Dozio and Nuccio. Holcombe leads the Racers in kills with 14 while Dozio and Nuccio made 12, each.
"They all did well," Reinholtz said. "All of our hitters did well and Bailey did a good job in distributing the passes. Overall it was a team effort and I think it showed with the 3-0 result."
Evansville is the second on The Valley pre-season polls.
"I think this is part of the process of getting better," Reinholtz said. "I personally do not care much about the results we try, as a team, to care less about our opponent while focusing on getting better and by following that the results will come."
The Racers goes back on the road to continue their MVC campaign against Valapraiso, Friday.
