Amundson Signs Eight Newcomers for Class of 2023

Softball welcomes eight newcomers for next season
Murray State softball adds eight signees for their 2023 class. Head coach Kara Amundson said this class will provide a wide range of contributions on the field, following MSU's upcoming inaugural Missouri Valley Conference season.
"We are really excited about the 2023 signing class. Being a class of 8 young players, we are looking for the wide range of contributions we know this class can make immediately," said Amundson.
Kendal Hargrove joins the Racers from Henderson, Ky., playing as an outfield for Henderson County High School.
Hargrove has been a varsity starter since seventh grade and she contributed to the Colonels' KHSAA District and Region Championship in 2021 and 2022. Individually, she is a two-time Henderson County Most Valuable Player in 2018 and 2019 and was honored the Henderson County Lady Colonel Award in 2021.
During her time at Henderson County, Hargrove has earned numerous academic awards including being named in the All-Region Academic team four times and the All-State Academic team twice. She is part of te National Honor Society and Governors Scholar Program.
Raylee Roby hails from Owensboro, Ky. and is playing as a pitcher for Daviess County High School.
Roby was named 2022 Owensboro Times Softball Player of the Year after being a key cotributor to the Lady Panthers' 31-6 season and appearance at State Tournament. She posted 1.58 ERA and 245 strikeouts this past season.Â
At Daviess County, she received the KHSAA All-State First Team and the Class 3A First team All-State honors.
Rylee Webb joins the Racers from Payneville, Ky. currently playing as an outfield for Meade County High School.
Webb was helped the Greenwaves to the 11th District Championship in 2019 and runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2022. She was named Freshman Defensive Player of the Year and Junior Varsity Most Valuable Player.
In her time at Meade County High School, Webb was named KHSAA First Team Academic All-State.
Summer Ray hails from Lancaster, Ky. and plays utility for Boyle Country High School.
Ray was named All-State First Team, this past season and is a three-time All-District First Team honoree (freshman, sophomore and junior). An all around defensive threat, Ray adds to the Murray State's defensive depth.
Maddie Hobby, 5-8, Outfield, Albany, Ga. (Lassiter HS)
During Hobby's four years as a varsity starter she has helped the Trojans to two State Championships. Individually, she has been named First Team All-State and is a two-time First Team All-Region honoree.Â
Hobby is part o the National Honor Society while at Lassiter High School.
Kayleigh White, 5-6, Pitcher, Harrodsburg, Ky. (East Jessamine HS)
Individually, White has been named District 45 Most Valuable Player and the 2022 Region 12 Player of the Year. She was named First Team All-State this past season. White will add even more strength to MSU's stellar pitching group.
Parker Holcombe joins MSU from Milton, Ga., she currently plays as a utility for Milton High School.
Holcombe is a two-time First Team All-Region and Second Team All-Region honoree. She seem to have it in her genes, Holcombe's mother played softball at Gannon University while her father played baseball at West Georgia.
Holcombe looks to help fortify MSU's defense.Â
Anna Willett hails from Henderson, Ky. and plays utility for Henderson County High School.Â
Willett broke her high school's batting average record as a sophomore. She went to the Elite 8 in her junior year while leading the Colonels in RBIs.
During her time at Henderson, Willett earned the National technical Honors Society academic honors.
"We will have strength in the circle with Kayleigh and Raylee. We know that Parker, Kendal and Summer will bring versatility to our defense. Maddie has the ability to be a triple threat kid offensively, Rylee and Anna have the ability to contribute offensively early in their careers, as well," said Amundson. "This group of ladies can help this program continue to fight for championships each year in the Missouri Valley and hopefully beyond! "
