Volleyball takes another home match win in five sets
Murray State volleyball grabs another victory at home against Valparaiso, Saturday.
The Racers show dominance in the first half of the match, winning the first set 25 to 21 and the second set 25 to 22. Never giving up the lead in both sets.
MSU started the third set strong before the Beacons started getting on a roll in digging attacks and eventually winning the set 25 to 22. Valpo resumes the momentum to take the fourth set.
The fifth set was a seesaw match as both teams refuse to drop the ball. The Racers are able to pick up speed in the final stretch and take the final set and the win.
It is senior night for the Racers and the lone senior of the year, Alysha Smith, got the final kill for the Racers.
Bailey DeMier matched her season high in assists with 58, helping three Racers to get 10 kills or more. DeMier also recorded nine digs and six kills for the night.
"She did amazing tonight. She surprises me so many times doing things that crazy but works," said head coach, David Schwepker.
Two freshmen Racers shine at tonight's match as Federica Nuccio and Ella Vogel lead the Racers in kills with 21 and 20, respectively.
"Ella struggled here and there but she kept going," said Schwepker. "Federica is just being stellar in crunch time. Everything is brand new for her and I am thankful that she's been steady for the team."
While DeMier, Vogel and Nuccio are focused on offense, Dahlia Miller made sure to keep the ball in play by making 24 digs.
The Racers will be back on the road to face Evansville, Friday.
