Racers Split Day Two at DePaul Dome Tournament

MSU Softball picks up first win of 2022 season
Murray State softball split the second day at the DePaul Dome Tournament on Saturday, picking up its first win of the season with a 5-2 victory over Ball State, followed by a 3-2 defeat at the hands of host DePaul.

Game One - Murray State 5, Ball State 2Â
Lindsey Carroll continued her impressive start to the season, sparking the Racer offense for the second game in a row and playing solid defense.Â

In the second, Carroll turned a 4-3 double play and then smoked a double to center, scoring on a Lily Fischer RBI single. Fischer made it 2-0 when she scored before Chloe Jacque was a caught in a rundown.Â

Kamryn Carcich had a career-high three RBIs, extending the Racers lead to 3-0 on a sacrifice fly scoring Logan Braundmeier and had a two-out ground rule two RBI double tacking on a pair of insurance runs making it 5-0.Â

Emma Olejniczak came on in relief of Jenna Veber, who went 5.1 innings, only allowing two runs while striking out three. Olejniczak struck out four of her five batters faced to pick up the save for the Racers.Â
Game Two - DePaul 3, Murray St. 2
First batter of the game, Braundmeier launched a home run to give Murray State an early 1-0 lead.

DePaul evened the game at one apiece in the bottom of the second and then added two more in the third to go up 3-1.

In the fourth, Jensen Striegel cut down a Blue Demon base runner at the plate to keep it a two-run game.

Back to back singles from Carroll and Fischer had runners on the corners for the Racers in the fifth. Freshman Erin Lackey made her collegiate debut pinch running for Fischer. Lackey closed the gap to one when she scored before pinch runner Jordan Caple was caught in a rundown.

Hannah James struck out four in the loss without issuing a walk through all six innings pitched. Â
The Racers will return to action on Sunday for one final game in the DePaul Dome Tournament as they face WIU at 9 a.m.
