MSU now 22-8 overall, 6-0 in OVC and winners of 12 straight
The Murray State softball team extended the nation's sixth longest active winning streak to 12 games Sunday by completing the series sweep of UT Martin with a 3-0 win at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky. The win makes two consecutive OVC series sweeps for the Racers and pushes their program-bets league start to 6-0.
Jensen Striegel got the scoring started for Murray State in the second with an RBI single, before being brought home herself two batters later on a double from Logan Braundmeier. In the fourth, Lily Fischer capped the scoring at 3-0 with her second home run of the weekend, this one a solo shot of the centerfield wall.
As it has all season, the pitching of the Racers played a big role in the win, notching MSU's 11th shutout of the season. Hannah James moved to 10-3 on the season by allowing no runs on two hits with five strikeouts over the first four innings of the game. Coming in at the top fifth, Jenna Veber earned her first save of the season by giving up no runs on one hit with three strikeouts.
In a change of schedule, Murray State will now return to action Tuesday at home against Austin Peay. The doubleheader, originally scheduled for March 30 at 2 p.m., will now be played March 29, also at 2 p.m.
