The Murray State golf student-athlete will attend the forum in June in Indianapolis
Murray State Golf student-athlete John Buchanan was recently selected to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum (June 2-5) in Indianapolis.
Â
The Career in Sports Forum is an annual educational program that brings together 200 selected NCAA student-athletes to learn about and explore potential careers in sports, particularly college athletics. This unique three-day forum helps student-athletes chart their career paths. Participants network with and learn from current athletics professionals.
Â
"What an outstanding opportunity for John Buchanan," said Coach Daniel DeLuca. Â "John is one of 200 student-athletes that were chosen after a nomination and application process that included over 1,000+ student-athletes. We pride ourselves here on developing these guys on and off the golf course, and we have had a lot of them step up in leadership roles and have great opportunities like this one. John joins Walker Beck and Quinn Eaton in having been chosen to represent Murray State and the OVC this year at NCAA Conferences and forums. Absolutely tremendous opportunities for these young men to better themselves and their lives post Murray State graduation. I am very proud and thrilled for John and this opportunity for him. Shoes Up!"
Â
Notable speakers will cover relevant topics to help prepare attendees for success navigating their futures. The topics to be covered include: self-awareness and its role in professional development; practical approaches to the sports job search; personal branding; developing a career plan; managing yourself as a professional in the sports industry. Through panels, engaging breakout discussions, keynote presentations and facilitated dialogues, program participants walk away from their experience with a thorough understanding of athletics as a career path and where they fit into the industry's landscape.
Â
The forum allows attendees to network with peers and decision-makers at the campus, conference and national level of college athletics. Content will meet the following program objectives.
Â
o            Learn how personal strengths intersect with career opportunities.
o            Have tangible experiences that will push the student-athlete forward in their aspiration for a career in sports.
o            Assist student-athletes in exploring professional and career development strategies and to help them transition to a career in the sports industry.
o            Learn about the role of an intercollegiate coach, athletics administrator and national governing body staff member.
