MSU suffers first loss since March 10
The Murray State softball team saw its program record 14-game win streak come to a close Saturday with a 8-0 loss to Eastern Illinois at Williams Field in Charleston, Illinois. The loss is also the first in the OVC for the Racers this season, after starting the league campaign at 8-0
The Racers ran into a buzz saw in the form of the Panthers, who pounded out eight runs on seven hits while allowing just two MSU hits defensively. Hannah Cravens began the barrage for EIU with a two-run home run in the first and the Panthers never looked back, adding three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Logan Braundmeier finished the day at 2-for-3, coming up with the Racers only two hits of the game. Hannah James allowed an uncharacteristic five runs on four hits over 3.2 innings, despite still striking out eight batters. Jenna Veber finished the game by allowing one earned run on three hits over 0.1 innings of work.
The Racers will look to put Saturday's loss behind them quickly, as they return to Williams Field Sunday to finish the series with a doubleheader against the Panthers, beginning at Noon.
