Murray State takes care of the Lindenwood 3-1 on Senior Day for 200th win
Seniors Lauren Payne and Grace Bodker each scored goals in a monumental 3-1 victory for Murray State over Lindenwood at Cutchin Field on Sunday. The win is the program's 200th victory of all-time.
After the Lions took the early lead in the 20th minute, MSU would respond in a big way. In the 24th minute, Payne would net the equalizer for the Racers on an assist from fellow senior Saraya Young and Camille Barber who would each grab two assists on the day. Just four minutes later, Murray State would snatch the lead on a stunning goal from Riley Johnson that was assisted by Barber.
After the half, MSU would extend their lead on a goal by Bodker in the 62nd minute following some beautiful link-up play between Young and freshman Sydney Etter to seal the win for the Racers. Jenna Villacres grabbed two saves in the second half to keep the Lions at bay.
Murray State would dominate the game in several areas, winning the shot count 21-3 and controlling 53 percent of the possession.
The first win in program history came on August 25, 2000 against IUPUI in a 1-0 match.
Following the game, MSU honored seven seniors in Bodker, Payne, Young, Jamie Skarupsky, Parker Greer, Jenna Villacres, and Marti Floyd.
The Racers will be back in action on September 18 when they host Oklahoma at Cutchin Field.
