Murray State won five MVC titles on the successful weekend for Racers tennis
Murray State women's tennis completed a successful weekend at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships in Springfield, Mo. MSU won 5 out of the 10 possible titles this weekend winning 4 out of the 7 possible singles titles.
Â
Sarah Bureau captured the flight three title with three straight-set wins. She remains undefeated in singles for the fall season (9-0).
Â
Bureau's French compatriot Emma Honore concluded a perfect 6-0 weekend with the win over UIC's Mayu Ushio in the fourth flight championship. Honore did not drop a set all weekend in route to capture the singles and doubles titles.
Â
Natalie Slezakova and Paola Campigotto defended their flight six and seven titles and are now back-to-back MVC Champions in their respective flights. Campigotto did not drop a set all weekend in route to capture the singles and doubles titles.
Â
In doubles play, the duo of Honore and Campigotto were back in the finals after a runner-up finish in last year's tournament on flight two. This year they competed in flight three and were able to secure the title with a win over Drake's Nicole Lee/Elizebete Klavinska.
Â
"Showing our team's strength against all the other MVC schools gives us the confidence and belief we are on the right track," said Head Coach Jorge Caetano. "We know it is early because it is a very long season but I am very proud of the team's effort and commitment to getting better every day in the weight room, at practice and during competition.
