Racers Land Three on MVFC Honorable Mention List

After Murray State completed its first season in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, the Racers had three players earn All-MVFC Honorable Mention as announced by the league office Monday in St. Louis.

Jacob Frye (OL), Orion Phillips (P) and Cole Rusk (TE) become the first group of Racers to earn a postseason award from the MVFC.

(67) Jacob Frye (OL) – Murfreesboro, Tenn. – Senior

Six-season member of the Murray State program
Joined the Racers as a freshman in the fall of 2018.
Became a regular offensive line contributor with seven starts in 2020.
Started all 11 games in 2021.
Named All-Ohio Valley Conference and started all 11 games in 2022.
In 2023, started all 11 games to end his MSU career with 46 starts and 40 consecutive.

(82) Orion Phillips (P) – Sandringham, Australia - Freshman

Joined the Racers as a freshman in the fall and became one of the best punters in all of FCS.
Was fourth in MVFC with a per punt average of 43.1 yards.
Was second in MVFC with 54 total punts in 2023.
Led MVFC with total yards in punts at 2,328.
Led MVFC with 17 punts placed inside the 20-yard line, which included nine punts at the 10-yard line or inside of it.
Had four punts inside the five-yard line.
Had 11 punts of 50+ yards including a 71-yard effort at Missouri State (Oct. 21).
It was the seventh longest punt at MSU since 1994 and the second-longest in the MVFC.
Was fourth in MVFC Freshman of the Year voting.
(15) Cole Rusk (TE) – Rock Island, Ill. - Sophomore
Joined the Racers from Eastern Michigan.
Led the team with 39 catches for 507 yards and six touchdowns.
Was seventh in MVFC with six touchdown catches.
Caught a Racer season-high 94 yards on four receptions vs Youngstown State (Nov. 18).
Tied for team season-high seven catches at Missouri State (Oct. 21).
His season-long reception went for 47 yards vs Youngstown State (Nov. 18).
Was third in voting for MVFC Newcomer of the Year
