Lewis Third at MVC Championship – Racers’ Best Since 2013

Trey Lewis carried the Racers to a fifth-place showing in their first chance at The Valley Championship
Lewis' third-place place finish came from scores of 71-68-69=208 and it makes for MSU's best individual finish at a league tournament since Patrick Newcomb won the Ohio Valley Championship in 2013. Using a stretch of 40 holes without a bogey in the 54-hole event, Lewis carded his career-low round Monday with a 68 and establishes his best 54-hole total.
Lewis shared third place with Roy Radke of Illinois State, while Felix van Dijk of Illinois State (204) placed second behind Anthony Delisanti (200) who won the MVC title in back-to-back seasons.
Carson Holmes gave the Racers his best finish in a league event with a 17th place showing on rounds of 72-71-73=216.
Picked to finish 10th in the MVC Preseason Poll, rookie head coach Jacob Miller's team exceeded expectations to card scored of 289-285-288=862 and share fifth place with Southern Illinois. Illinois State posted an 836 and a 13-shot win over runner up Valparaiso at 849.
The Racers' 285 in the second round marks the program's best since 2011 when the team carded a 282 at Miller Memorial in Murray, Ky. MSU's 836 is the program's best since the 2010 had an 866 at GreyStone GC in Dickson, Tennessee
By finishing third, Trey Lewis also was honored as part of the All-MVC Men's Golf Team.
The 2024 MVC Championship will be hosted by Missouri State and is scheduled to be held at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo. Dates for May 2023 will be announced later.
