Racers Fall in Series Opener to Flames

Murray State baseball fell 6-1 to UIC on Friday evening
Murray State baseball fell to UIC 6-1 on Friday night at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers and Flames will play game two of the series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Carson Garner highlighted the Racers night at the plate, driving in the lone run on an RBI-single in the first inning to drive in Dustin Mercer. Mercer reached base on a double down the third base line as the second batter of the game.Â
Taylor Howell and Logan Bland each picked up a hit in the performance.
On the mound, Jacob Pennington put together a strong start for the Racers, going 6.2 innings pitched and allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out seven. Pennington now holds a 2.96 ERA across a team-high 51.2 innings pitched this season. Allen Roulette tossed a scoreless inning in relief for MSU in the top of the ninth inning.Â
MSU moves to 15-15 overall and 3-4 in MVC play.Â
