Ruiz, Correia, Willis Lead Racers To Victory At WKU Invite

Three of the top-five individual finishes were comprised of Murray State runners.

The Murray State men's cross country team took home a team victory at the WKU XC Invite in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Friday. The Racers notched 33 team points, defeating second-place Campbellsville by 13.

All five runners with counting scores finished the race in the top 15.

Jorge Ruiz, Vicente Correia and Jarod Willis led the way for the Racers with second, third and fourth-place finishes.

Ruiz finished the race 17 seconds behind the individual winner with a time of 24:40.6. Correia and Willis were not far behind with times of 25:09.9 and 25:42.2.

Gabe Russell shattered his collegiate debut finish after placing 11th at the Invite with a time of 26:25.3. Dan Schalk rounded out the counting scores for the Racers after placing 13th with a time of 26:41.4.

The Racers return to competition when they travel to Columbia, Missouri, for the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri on September 29th.
