Murray State surpassed two program records that held for over 20 years.
The Murray State women's track and field team displayed a strong showing at the Commodore Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, breaking two separate records that stood atop the program record book for over two decades.
11Â personal records were set by 10Â different Racers throughout the two-day event.
"As a staff, we couldn't have asked for more from this group coming back off of break," head coach Adam Kiesler said. "They brought the energy, no matter the heat, flight or event."
Senior Kayla Bell set a new program indoor record with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.73, breaking Nina Funderburk's record that was set in 1989 (2:07.94). The Lynwood, Illinois native currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference and holds the seventh-fastest 800-meter time among all Division I qualifying athletes in the country.
Bell, along with freshman Anouk Krause-Jentsch, senior Faith Bostick and sophomore Chelby Melvin, broke the indoor 4-by-400-meter relay record that was last set 25 years ago (3:44.88, 1990) with a time of 3:41.92. The quartet currently sits atop the MVC with their record-setting time and are among the top-20 fastest times in the country.
Senior standout Jenna Pauly saw a first-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.94 meters, setting a new indoor personal record for the event. The McHenry, Ill. native also set a new personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.64 seconds.
Senior Amirr Evans (mile run, 5:06.37), sophomores Andrea Segovia (long jump, 5.58 meters; 60-meter hurdles, 9.20 seconds), Brooke Probst (high jump, 1.72 meters), Morgan Noyes (pole vault, 3.42 meters), Simone Joseph (400-meter, 56.75; 600-meter, 1:35.93), Kinsey Huber (200-meter, 26.53) and Karrington Edwards (600-meter, 1:48.01)Â and freshman Jakiya Baker (200-meter, 25.96) all set new personal bests throughout the weekend.
Murray State will return to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Invitational on January 19-20.
"The high jump and 4-by-400 book ended a meet with so many positive things," Kiesler added about his team's performance. "As a group we are working on our confidence, and I think leaving Nashville this group should have more confidence than when we got there."
