Racers Unable to Overcome Beacons

Murray State was eliminated from the MVC Volleyball Championship in a 3-1 loss to Valparaiso.
The Murray State Racers (14-14, 9-9 MVC) fell to the Valparaiso Beacons (18-13, 9-9 MVC) 3-1 at the Missouri Valley Volleyball Championship on Saturday night. Â
ÂThe Racers held on through a long first set recording 18 kills and winning 29-27 in a set that included 9 lead changes. The Beacons struck back in the second winning 25-19 and survived a close third set to win 25-23. The Racers refused to go quietly in the fourth set, jumping out to an 8-1 lead, however, Valpo eventually tied the set 22-22 before clinching the match with a 27-25 victory. Â
ÂThe Beacons won the blocks battle 17-11, had more assists 61-53, and had more kills 69-59. Â
ÂThree different Racers had double-digit kills as Ella Vogel led all players with 21, Lily Burnett had 14, and Haidi Miliou had 10. Dahlia Miller led the team with 21 digs while Bailey DeMier had 20, Federica Nuccio had 15, Paige Brock had 12 and Burnett had 11.Â
ÂBailey DeMier put up 44 assists, bringing her career total to 4640 and setting a new record for most career assists in Murray State history. Â
ÂAva Helming led the Beacons with 18 kills while Same Warren put up 17.  Mara Thomas led the team with 29 assists with Addy Kois putting up 27. Emma Hickey had 21 digs. Â
