Racers Split Doubleheader, Drop Series Against Bruins

Murray State softball beats Belmont 2-0 before falling 0-2 on second game to drop the series.

Murray State softball splits doubleheader against Belmont, Tuesday. They won the first game 2-0 but lost the second game 0-2 to drop their series against the Bruins.

The Racers are now 19-24 overall and 7-11 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Game One
The Racers took the edge in a battle of a defensive performance. They scored their first run through Adison Hicks's RBI in the third inning before adding an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth through Taylor Franzen's sacrifice fly RBI.

Jenna Veber took her 14th win of the season with the shutout win. She only allowed three hits through 27 batters faced.

Game Two
The Bruins took the early lead with an RBI in the first inning before extending the lead in the fourth inning.

Both teams posted six hits each but the Racers fell short in getting their runners home.

Taylor Jackson posted her 15th caught-stealing-by of the season to become the program's all-time leader in the category with 43. Ellyn Troup from class of 2013 is the previous career record holder with 42.

What's next?
Murray State will travel to Evansville for a series against the Purple Aces, Friday through Sunday.
