Murray State plays The Valley Championship at the Lake of the Ozarks starting Sunday
The Murray State men's golf team plays Missouri Valley Conference Championship Sunday through Tuesday in the Lake of the Ozarks area at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Missouri.
After a fifth place showing a year in Moline, Illinois, the Racers are back for their second try at The Valley season-ending bash on a great golf course. The Nicklaus Signature Course is the focal point of three courses at Porto Cima with seven holes that play beside or over the lake. Porto Cima opened in 2000 and is still considered one of Missouri's top courses by Golf Digest.
The Valley is making its championship event at Porto Cima for the fourth time. The first MVC event there was in 2011 and won by Wichita State (903). WSU (864) won it again in 2015 and Southern Illinois (859) won the MVC Championship in 2019.
Â
In the Racers' fifth place finish in 2023, Trey Lewis played a splendid tournament to place third and land a spot on the MVC All-Tournament Team on scores of 71-68-69=208. Lewis joins teammates Jay Nimmo and Kamaren Cunningham who also played in the MVC event a year ago. MSU's Lennon Albans and Brady Haake will be playing in their first Valley Championship.
The Racers are paired with Northern Iowa and Bradley in the first round with Nimmo first up at 11:20 a.m. MSU's other tee times include Lewis at 11:30 a.m., Albans at 11:50 a.m., Cunningham at 12:0 p.m. and Haake at 12:10 p.m.Â
