The continued commitment to serving the community has produced a banner year in 2023-24 for the Racers
As the 2023-24 school year reaches its final weeks, Murray State Athletics is proud to announce that it recently surpassed 1,000 hours of community service for the first time in department history.
This amazing accomplishment was delivered by all of Murray State's men's and women's sport programs including, baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, rifle, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field and volleyball.
"One of the key pillars of our Dennis Jackson Leadership Program is leadership and civic engagement, so to have our student-athletes embrace our community and region by giving their time back is truly amazing," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "To have more than 1,000 hours of community service is a tremendous accomplishment and speaks to the level of character that our student-athletes possess, and I am so proud of each of them. I cannot wait to see the positive impact that our Racers continue to have on our community."
MSU's 350-plus student-athletes combined to serve 22 local organizations that ranged from sorting donations for foster children, to assisting at animal shelters and food drives, city park maintenance, and caring for senior citizens.
The recent partnership between MSU Athletics and Southwest Calloway Elementary School created a field trip experience where 250 K-through-5th graders visited each of the Racers' sport facilities, met student-athletes, and participated in a fun activity directed by the people that proudly wear the Blue & Gold.
