Seven Racers Named To Missouri Valley’s All-Conference List

Murray State has the most players named to the All-Conference teams since 2009.
Drew Vogel, Carson Garner, Cade Vernon, Nathan Holler, Jacob Pennington, Jonathan Hogart and Dustin Mercer have been named to the 2024 Missouri Valley's All-Conference teams, the league announced Monday night.
The seven Racers named to All-Conference ties the most players to receive the honors since 1975. The last time Murray State had seven All-Conference players was the 2009 season.
Vogel was named First Team All-MVC a year after receiving All-MVC Second Team honors in 2023. The redshirt junior from White House, Tennessee posted a .339 batting average and was among the top five in the conference in on-base percentage, runs scored, base hits, RBIs, home runs and total bases.
Garner, Vernon and Holler all received Second Team All-MVC recognitions. Garner finished the regular season with a .303 batting average, 15 home runs and 56 RBIs. The Franklin, Tennessee native finished among the top 10 in the MVC in runs, on-base percentage, RBIs and walks.
Vernon led the conference with nine wins and the second-most strikeouts at 83 for the season in 14 starts on the mound. Holler turned in eight saves, which are tied for the most single-season saves in program history. The senior turned in a 2.97 ERA along with a 4-0 record in relief in 24 appearances.
Pennington and Hogart were named as MVC All-Conference Honorable Mentions. Pennington holds the second-most career strikeouts in program history with 265 thus far. The graduate finished the regular season with a 5-4 record and 73 punchouts through 71 1/3 innings. He carries a 5-4 record through 14 appearances, 10 of which he started.
Hogart heads into the conference tournament with a .309 batting average, 13 home runs, 51 RBIs and a conference-leading 65 runs scored.
Dustin Mercer was named to the Missouri Valley Conference's All-Defensive team. Mercer totaled 124 putouts on 134 chances with eight outfield assists and a .985 fielding percentage, along with assisting in turning two double plays this year.
The Racers open tournament play against the winner of Southern Illinois and Belmont on Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. CT at Charles H. Braun Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.
