Each Racer sport program posts a 3.0 GPA or better in record-setting semester
For the 40th consecutive semester the Murray State Athletics Department earned an overall GPA above 3.0 and had the highest overall GPA in history at 3.34 in the Spring of 2024.
All sport programs had a team GPA of 3.0 or higher while eight teams picked up a GPA above 3.5.
"Murray State Athletics has experienced a tremendous amount of academic success over the last three semesters, so to be able to once again break our departmental GPA record and extend our historic streak is a tremendous accomplishment," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "We are so proud of each of our more than 400 student-athletes and are grateful for the coaches and academic staff who continue to prioritize success in the classroom."
Women's tennis earned the highest team GPA with a 3.71 followed by men's cross country which earned a 3.66 GPA, and women's soccer with a 3.63 GPA. Baseball, rifle, and women's cross country all had their highest team GPA in history this semester.
Overall, 83 student-athletes were named to the President's List (4.0 GPA) and 76 student-athletes earned Dean's List honors (3.5-3.99 GPA).
"We have been intentional with our investments into championship resources for each of our sport programs, and our ability to provide Alston Academic Incentive money to our teams not only allowed us to find top talent to bring to Murray but has been a key piece of the academic success we have experienced," Yantko added. "We are so fortunate to have investors who believe in the holistic success and experience of our student-athletes, and we cannot thank them enough for believing in them and for believing in our overall vision for Racer Athletics."
