Murray State softball falls 2-1 in their nine-inning MVC quarterfinals matchup against SIU.

In A Nutshell
Murray State softball's 2024 campaign ends as they lost 2-1 in nine innings to Southern Illinois in quarter-final round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, Thursday.

The Racers end their season after earning their first program MVC Tournament win in the first round over UIC (10-2), Wednesday. They have an overall record of 24-30.

How it Went
A re-run of the Racers and Salukis' first meeting this season, they saw a battle of the aces as Jenna Veber and Maddia Groff pitched three shutout innings to begin the game.

Erin Lackey give the Racers the first lead at the top of the fourth inning with her first home run of the season but the Salukis responded in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single to left field.

Two more scoreless innings took the game to the eighth inning that Veber and Groff also shutout. The regular season champions scored an RBI double to left center to win the game.

By the Stats
Lackey scored her first home run of the season, her second career home run for the Racers. She scored her first home run in her freshman season against Belmont (March 3, 2022).

Lackey has two hits with the home run and a single, posting a total of four hits in the tournament.

Adison Hicks hit her first double of the season.

Jenna Veber pitched a complete nine-inning game while only allowing an earned run through 38 batters faced to close her Murray State career.
