Garner, Pennington Named To MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

Carson Garner and Jacob Pennington both received first-team honors.
Carson Garner and Jacob Pennington were both named to the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete First Team, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.
Garner, a junior from Franklin, Tennessee, holds a 3.78 grade point average as a finance major. He was named to All-Missouri Valley Second Team this season after notching top-15 single-season performances in runs (52 - T-15th), home runs (15 – T-9th), walks (49 – 6th) and RBIs (56 – T-9th).
He was named MVC Player of the Week on March 11 and sits 10th in program history for career home runs (30).
Pennington, a graduate native to Mufreesboro, Tennessee, finished his undergrad with a 3.61 GPA and currently holds a perfect 4.0 in the Human Development & Leadership graduate program. He was an All-MVC Honorable Mention in 2024. He set the program record for most career innings pitched with 289.2 innings and holds the second-most career strikeouts in school history with 269.
After five seasons at Murray State, Pennington is tied for the seventh-most career wins with 19, and tossed a career-high 12 strikeouts in 6.2 innings in a win against Valparaiso. The righty hurler tossed nine innings against Indiana State on April 6 allowing just one run on three hits, three walks with six strikeouts.
