Sales will be piloted in Roy Stewart Stadium beginning in the 2024 season
Murray State University's Department of Athletics, in conjunction with local and state officials and Sodexo partners, will begin a pilot program for the sale of select alcoholic beverages at Racer football home games beginning in the 2024 athletic season, it was announced on Friday afternoon.
Â
Fans will have the opportunity to purchase beer, seltzers, and other similar offerings at select concessions stands throughout the Roy Stewart Stadium concourse. Specific locations and beverage pricing will be announced at a later date.
Â
"We are constantly exploring unique ways to further enhance game day for our fans, and the ability to sell alcohol at home football games shows our commitment to providing a world-class experience," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "We took our time working with our great partners at Sodexo and State leadership, as well as leadership at in-state and like institutions, to identify best practices and gather relevant information before coming to a final decision on alcohol sales. This is the right time for Murray State to implement this pilot program and we are excited to see how we can develop this plan to begin sales at future sporting events."
Â
The following regulations will be in place for all alcohol transactions made at Murray State football events or events at Roy Stewart Stadium where alcohol is available for purchase:
Â
Additional guidelines and restrictions may be put into place within the venue at the discretion of the University.
Â
With this pilot program in place, Murray State joins all other Division I institutions in Kentucky, and its peers in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, as programs that sell alcohol within their football venues on game day.
Â
Future alcohol sales at other sporting events, and within other venues, are currently under review.
